OBD-II fault code

P06D7: Sensor Reference Voltage F Circuit Low

What it means

The voltage in sensor reference circuit F is below the expected range. The affected sensors and resulting symptoms depend on the vehicle.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Reference circuit F supplies a regulated voltage to its assigned sensors, and the control module monitors the rail to ensure it does not fall below its expected range. P06D7 sets when the F reference voltage is low, which may affect several sensors sharing that rail.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Reference rail shorted to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible limp mode or no-start
  • Multiple follow-up faults across modules
  • Reset/relearn may be needed after repair

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and check for other circuit F or sensor codes, because several low or implausible readings together can indicate a shared rail problem.
  2. Identify the circuit F branches from vehicle service information and inspect the harness for chafing, exposed conductors, or contact with ground.
  3. Check the F reference voltage at the module and at affected sensor connectors against the manufacturer's specification, using the prescribed powered-circuit procedure.
  4. Inspect connector pins for corrosion, poor contact, or water intrusion, and check wiring continuity and shorts to ground as directed by the manufacturer.
  5. Isolate connected sensor branches according to the service procedure to find a sensor or branch pulling the F rail low; assess the module driver only after the external circuit is cleared.

Common fixes

  • Repair chafed insulation or wiring that is shorting the F rail to ground.
  • Clean or repair corroded terminals and restore correct connector contact.
  • Replace a sensor only if disconnecting or testing it confirms it is pulling circuit F low.
  • Repair the confirmed harness or module fault, then clear codes and complete any required relearn.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if the engine has entered limp mode, runs erratically, or is hard to start, as low circuit F voltage can disrupt multiple sensor signals. If it runs normally, limit use and have the fault traced soon because drivability may deteriorate or the engine may fail to start.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
