What it means
Same as P04C3 with intermittent feedback. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
How it works
The lock-position sensor provides feedback so the module can track whether the fuel-fill door lock is engaged or released. P04C7 sets when that feedback becomes unstable or drops in and out instead of changing consistently with the lock position.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent contact at connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Fuel-fill door lock status may change intermittently
- Door may not lock or unlock consistently
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and scan-tool position feedback to identify when the signal becomes erratic, such as during movement or vibration.
- Cycle the lock while watching the position reading to see whether it changes smoothly and consistently between states.
- Inspect the sensor connector for loose or corroded contacts and check for pins that may move in the connector body.
- Move the harness gently and inspect where it passes vibrating parts or sharp edges while monitoring the live reading.
- If the wiring is stable, test the sensor and its mounting against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose sensor connector and clean corroded contacts.
- Repair damaged wiring or reroute a harness that rubs or vibrates against another part.
- Replace a connector terminal with intermittent contact.
- Replace a position sensor that gives unstable feedback despite sound wiring and mounting.
Can I keep driving?
Driving is generally safe if the fuel-fill door is shut, but its lock status or operation may become unreliable without warning. Check that it is latched, especially before leaving the vehicle unattended.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
