What it means
An electrical fault has been detected in the ignition coil circuit for cylinder 2 — open primary winding, short to ground, or short to supply. The ECU disables the coil to protect its driver and the cylinder misfires.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The ignition module switches current through the primary winding of coil B, which serves cylinder 2, to create the spark that fires that cylinder. The control module monitors the coil circuit for an electrical response and sets P0352 when it detects an open or a short to ground or supply on the cylinder 2 coil circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Coil primary winding open or shorted
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Rough running or misfire
- Hard starting
- Reduced engine power
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check cylinder 2 misfire counts, then see whether the fault returns after clearing the code.
- Inspect coil B, its connector, and nearby wiring for looseness, corrosion, damaged insulation, or signs of heat.
- Check the coil B supply and control wiring for opens or shorts, following the vehicle wiring diagram and the manufacturer's specification.
- Test coil B's primary winding and compare its readings with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the coil and wiring pass, check the control module's coil B driver and its connections using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or secure the cylinder 2 coil connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals in the coil B circuit.
- Replace coil B if its primary winding fails testing.
- Repair the coil B driver circuit or replace the control module if testing confirms a driver fault.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if the engine is shaking or the check-engine light is flashing; an ongoing cylinder 2 misfire can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. If it runs smoothly and the light is steady, limit driving and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
