OBD-II fault code

P02FD: Cold Start Fuel Injection Control Circuit High

What it means

Cold-start injector drive line stuck high — short to B+. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cold-start fuel injection control circuit carries the module's drive signal to an auxiliary injector or related output used during very cold starts on some engines. The module detects the circuit at an abnormally high electrical level, often because the control wire is shorted to battery voltage.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to B+
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard starting when the engine is cold
  • Rough running just after a cold start

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and determine whether the fault is present continuously or only when cold-start injection is commanded.
  2. Inspect the cold-start injector connector and harness for pinched insulation, chafing against a power feed, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  3. Following the manufacturer's isolation procedure, check whether the control wire is shorted to battery voltage.
  4. Wiggle the harness while monitoring the circuit or code status to locate a short that changes as the wiring moves.
  5. If no wiring short is found, test the injector circuit and module output against the manufacturer's specification to identify a component fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire pinched against a battery-voltage source.
  • Replace damaged harness sections where insulation has worn through.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or pushed-back connector terminals.
  • Replace a faulty injector or repair the module output only when testing confirms the fault.

Can I keep driving?

The engine may be hard to start when cold and run unevenly just after starting. Avoid repeated extended cranking, which can drain the battery and overheat the starter.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
