OBD-II fault code

P02EE: Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The cylinder 1 injector drive circuit is electrically OK but the response (current ramp, dwell time, or peak voltage) does not match the calibrated profile — typically a high-resistance solenoid winding or wiring corrosion.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 1 injector circuit drives the fuel injector that supplies cylinder 1. P02EE sets when the control module detects that the circuit's electrical response is outside its expected range or performance, even though it may not be a simple open or short; an injector winding or its connector and wiring can cause the mismatch.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Injector fault
  2. Injector connector or wiring fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Rough idle or engine misfire
  • Hesitation or reduced power
  • Poorer fuel economy

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and check cylinder 1 misfire or injector data, if available, to see when the circuit fault coincides with rough running.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 1 injector connector and harness for corrosion, loose terminals, damaged insulation, or poor contact.
  3. Compare the cylinder 1 injector circuit with the manufacturer's wiring information and check for excessive resistance or an unstable connection.
  4. Use supported scan-tool injector tests or waveform/current data to compare cylinder 1's electrical response with the expected pattern.
  5. Test the cylinder 1 injector winding and wiring against the manufacturer's specifications before replacing the injector or considering a control-module fault.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged cylinder 1 injector connector.
  • Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the cylinder 1 injector circuit.
  • Replace the cylinder 1 injector if its electrical response is outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair or replace the control module only if circuit and injector tests identify it as the cause.

Can I keep driving?

A brief, gentle trip may be possible if the engine is running smoothly, but avoid high loads because a cylinder 1 misfire can worsen and affect drivability. Stop if the engine shakes severely, loses substantial power, or the warning light flashes.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
