What it means
CAC bypass position sensor A signal voltage below expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Charge air cooler bypass position sensor A reports valve position to the control module. P024E sets when the sensor signal is below the expected range, which can result from a signal wire shorted to ground, a poor connector contact, or a faulty sensor.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced engine power or acceleration
- Poor turbo response
- Reduced fuel economy
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check for other bypass or sensor-circuit codes.
- Inspect sensor A’s connector and harness for corrosion, water entry, chafing, or insulation worn through to ground.
- Check the sensor A supply and ground, then test its signal wire for a short to ground using the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- Monitor sensor A data while moving the bypass valve and carefully flexing the harness to identify an intermittent low signal.
- If wiring and connections pass, test or substitute the sensor only as permitted by the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground in the sensor A circuit.
- Clean or repair corroded connector pins and restore a sound connection.
- Replace position sensor A if it fails the specified test.
- Repair damaged harness insulation and secure the wiring away from rubbing points.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and towing because the control module may not know the bypass valve’s position accurately, reducing turbo response or power. Stop if power loss makes it unsafe to continue.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
