What it means
Generic electrical fault on CAC bypass position sensor A (feedback sensor for bypass valve).
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Charge air cooler bypass position sensor A reports the bypass valve’s position so the control module can manage airflow and verify movement. P024C indicates a fault in the sensor A circuit, but the code by itself does not distinguish a failed sensor from damaged wiring, a poor connection, or a module fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Bypass position sensor A failure
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Poor electrical connection
- Control module fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced engine power or acceleration
- Poor turbo response
- Reduced fuel economy
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related bypass-control codes before clearing them.
- Inspect position sensor A’s connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, and damaged insulation.
- Check the sensor A supply, ground, and signal circuits using the wiring diagram and the manufacturer’s specification.
- Move the bypass valve through its range, if safely and practically possible, while monitoring sensor A feedback for a consistent change.
- If the wiring and sensor pass, follow the manufacturer’s procedure to check the control-module circuit.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair poor connections at charge air cooler bypass position sensor A.
- Repair damaged supply, ground, or signal wiring in the sensor A circuit.
- Replace position sensor A if it fails the specified test.
- Repair the control-module circuit only after confirming a module fault.
Can I keep driving?
Gentle driving may be possible, but avoid hard acceleration because bypass control and turbo response may be affected. Stop if power loss becomes severe or makes it unsafe to keep pace with traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
