OBD-II fault code

P0192: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low

What it means

The ECU reads a voltage from the fuel rail pressure sensor below the calibrated minimum, indicating short to ground or open supply.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A converts pressure in the fuel rail into an electrical signal that the ECU uses to manage fuel delivery. P0192 sets when the ECU sees Sensor A's signal below its calibrated range, which can happen if the signal is pulled to ground or the sensor's supply or connection is faulty.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Sensor failed low
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard starting or extended cranking
  • Rough running or stalling
  • Reduced engine power

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and compare the reported rail pressure with engine speed and starting conditions to see when the low signal occurred.
  2. With the ignition off, inspect Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A's connector for corrosion, damaged pins, poor fit, or moisture.
  3. Trace Sensor A's signal wire for chafing or contact with ground, paying particular attention to bends and areas near hot or moving parts.
  4. Using the wiring diagram, check the sensor's supply and ground reference, then measure the signal circuit for a short to ground or excessive resistance.
  5. If wiring and connector checks pass, compare the sensor output with actual rail-pressure data using the manufacturer's test procedure to identify a sensor that reads low.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose Sensor A connector terminals.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged sensor wiring.
  • Restore a faulty sensor supply or ground-reference connection.
  • Replace Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A if its output remains low with sound wiring and connections.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if the engine stalls, is difficult to start, or has substantially reduced power; loss of fuel-pressure feedback can make it unreliable in traffic. If it runs normally, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon, since rough running and stalling may worsen.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
