What it means
The charge air cooler coolant temperature sensor A circuit signal is intermittent or erratic. This code does not refer to the engine coolant temperature sensor.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The charge air cooler coolant temperature sensor A sends a temperature signal from the charge air cooler circuit to the control module; it does not measure engine coolant temperature. P00E2 sets when that signal changes erratically or drops in and out, often because a connector or harness loses contact with vibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Connector loose or corroded
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced engine performance or power
- Intermittent changes in engine performance
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live sensor A readings for sudden jumps or dropouts, noting when the fault occurred.
- Inspect sensor A’s connector for looseness, corrosion, damaged pins, or signs that vibration could interrupt contact.
- Follow the sensor A harness and look for rubbing, pinching, or contact with a vibrating component.
- With live data displayed, gently move the connector and harness to see whether the sensor reading changes or the fault returns.
- Check sensor A circuit continuity and connector contact while moving the harness, then test the sensor against the manufacturer’s specification if the wiring checks out.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose sensor A connector and repair damaged or corroded pins.
- Repair chafed wiring and route the harness clear of vibrating or rubbing parts.
- Replace a connector or terminal that cannot maintain contact under vibration.
- Replace sensor A if its signal remains erratic despite sound wiring and connections.
Can I keep driving?
A brief drive may be possible if the engine feels normal, but performance could change unexpectedly as the signal drops out. Avoid hard acceleration or towing if power becomes inconsistent, and arrange diagnosis soon.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
