What it means
The control module monitors the supply voltage circuit for the fuel volume regulator solenoid and sets this code when it detects an open circuit. The code identifies a supply circuit fault but does not by itself pinpoint the break or establish that the solenoid has failed.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The fuel volume regulator solenoid helps meter fuel supplied to the engine. P00CB sets when the control module detects an open in the solenoid's supply-voltage circuit, so the code points to an interrupted feed and does not by itself prove the solenoid has failed.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Supply wiring open
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
- Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Engine may stall or run roughly
- Reduced power or hesitation
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related fuel-pressure codes to see whether the open coincided with hard starting, stalling or hesitation.
- Inspect the fuel volume regulator connector for a backed-out pin, corrosion, loose fit or heat damage.
- Follow the regulator supply wire and check for breaks, chafing or damage near bends and connector entries.
- With the circuit safely isolated as required, check continuity from the regulator supply terminal to its feed point.
- Check the circuit fuse, relay and module-side connections, then test the regulator solenoid using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat a loose fuel volume regulator connector or terminal.
- Repair an open or damaged wire in the solenoid supply circuit.
- Replace a failed fuse or relay after checking for the cause.
- Replace a damaged connector or terminal with poor contact.
- Repair a confirmed module fault or replace the solenoid if its own test shows failure.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if the engine stalls, runs roughly or loses power, because fuel delivery may be unreliable. If it will not start or repeatedly stalls, do not keep driving it.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
