OBD-II fault code

C0080: Left Rear ABS Solenoid #1 Circuit Malfunction

What it means

C0080 indicates an electrical fault in the left rear ABS solenoid number 1 circuit. The ABS control module sets it when the solenoid circuit does not respond as expected electrically.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light

How it works

The ABS hydraulic control unit contains solenoid valves that regulate pressure at individual wheels; solenoid number 1 serves the left-rear circuit. C0080 sets when the ABS module detects an electrical response from that left-rear solenoid circuit that does not match its expected condition.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or shorted wiring
  2. Corroded or loose hydraulic unit connector
  3. Failed solenoid coil
  4. ABS control module fault

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light
  • ABS may be disabled

How to diagnose it

  1. Read the C0080 subtype and freeze-frame data, and check for other ABS codes that may point to a shared power or connector problem.
  2. Inspect the hydraulic control unit connector and left-rear solenoid wiring for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or damage.
  3. Check the ABS fuses, power feeds, and grounds associated with the hydraulic unit.
  4. With the system safely powered down as directed by vehicle service information, test the left-rear solenoid number 1 circuit for opens or shorts.
  5. Measure the solenoid coil and verify module-side circuit operation against the manufacturer's specification before condemning the ABS module.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the hydraulic control unit connector if corrosion or looseness is confirmed.
  • Repair an open, short, or damaged wire in the left-rear solenoid number 1 circuit.
  • Replace the left-rear solenoid coil or hydraulic unit if testing confirms the coil has failed.
  • Replace or reprogram the ABS control module only after the solenoid and wiring tests rule out other causes.

Can I keep driving?

Base braking may remain, but ABS may be unavailable and wheels can lock during hard braking. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid slippery conditions until repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
