What it means
The restraint module monitors the passenger seat’s recline position sensor to determine the seatback angle. It sets this code when the sensor signal or circuit is outside the module’s expected range or is missing.
At a glance
- Usually lights the airbag (SRS) or body-system warning light
How it works
The passenger seat recline position sensor reports the seatback angle to the restraint control module. B00C6 sets when the module sees a missing or out-of-range signal from this sensor, potentially preventing it from assessing the passenger’s position relative to the airbag correctly.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Failed recline position sensor
- Loose or damaged connector or wiring
- Open or short in the sensor circuit
- Fault in the restraint control module
Symptoms
- Warning light or symbol related to the affected system
- Comfort or safety function impaired
How to diagnose it
- Read SRS codes and freeze-frame data with a scan tool that can access the restraint module; record any codes that point to seat position or circuit faults.
- Check live passenger recline-position data while adjusting the seatback normally, if permitted, and see whether the value responds consistently.
- Inspect the recline sensor and its connector and harness for loose fittings, corrosion, pin damage, or wires pinched at the hinge or seat frame.
- Following the manufacturer’s SRS isolation procedure, check the sensor circuit for opens, shorts, and correct power and ground.
- Measure the recline sensor output through its operating range and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.
- If sensor and wiring tests pass, verify restraint-module feeds, grounds, and connectors before considering a module fault.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair damaged wiring at the passenger seat recline sensor.
- Correct an open or short in the recline sensor circuit.
- Replace the passenger seat recline position sensor if its output fails the specified test.
- Repair a confirmed restraint-module power, ground, or connector problem.
- Replace or reprogram the restraint control module only after its fault is established.
Can I keep driving?
You can often drive the vehicle, but the passenger restraint system may not correctly account for the seatback angle in a collision. Keep the seatback in a secure, normal position and arrange prompt diagnosis; avoid disturbing under-seat or seat-hinge wiring.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
