What it means
This indicator shows that the rear-window demister is switched on to clear mist or frost. Amber commonly indicates that the feature is active, but its colour and automatic shut-off behaviour vary by manufacturer.
What the symbol looks like: Three upward wavy lines over a rectangular rear-window outline indicate the heated rear window.
Why it comes on
- The driver switched on the rear-window heater
- A climate or defrost mode activated it
- The vehicle automatically switched it on under certain conditions
- A control or electrical fault may keep the indicator on unexpectedly
What to do
- Check that the rear window is clearing
- Switch the heater off when it is no longer needed
- Check the owner’s manual for automatic shut-off or linked mirror heating
- If it does not heat or will not switch off, arrange an electrical-system check
Can I keep driving?
You can drive with the heater on if visibility is safe. Do not continue until you can see traffic behind you adequately.
Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
