What it means
The front passenger airbag is switched off or has been disabled by the occupant-classification system. Amber commonly indicates that the airbag is off; the symbol, colour, and conditions that switch it off vary by manufacturer.
What the symbol looks like: A seated person in side view with a filled circle (inflated airbag) in front, all crossed out by one diagonal line.
Why it comes on
- The passenger airbag was switched off using a key or vehicle setting.
- The passenger seat is empty.
- A child seat or small occupant was detected.
- An object or incorrect seating position affected the passenger-seat sensor.
What to do
- Check the owner’s manual for the indicator’s meaning and the permitted use of a child seat.
- Confirm the passenger airbag setting is appropriate for the occupant.
- Move bags and other objects off the passenger seat and have the occupant sit correctly.
- If an adult is seated there and the light remains on, use another seat if available and arrange an SRS check.
Can I keep driving?
The light may be normal when the seat is empty or when the manual says the airbag should be off. If an adult passenger is seated and the airbag remains off, do not rely on that airbag for protection; follow the manual and arrange a prompt check.
Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
