What it means
This warning indicates that the parking distance sensor system may be faulty or unavailable. Amber commonly signals a system issue that needs checking, but the symbol, colour, and behaviour vary by manufacturer; check the owner’s manual.
What the symbol looks like: A vehicle with curved lines or arcs in front of or behind it, sometimes accompanied by an alert symbol.
Why it comes on
- One or more ultrasonic sensors are dirty, iced over, or blocked.
- A sensor or its wiring is damaged or faulty.
- A towbar, accessory, or load is obstructing a sensor.
- The system has been temporarily limited by weather or conditions.
What to do
- Park safely and check the sensors for dirt, ice, or obstruction.
- Clean the sensor surfaces gently and remove any blockage.
- Use mirrors and check around the vehicle directly when manoeuvring.
- If the warning remains, consult the owner’s manual and have the system inspected.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually continue driving, but do not rely on parking sensors to detect obstacles. Manoeuvre slowly and check around the vehicle yourself.
Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
