Amber and yellow lights

Lane departure warning / lane assist

What it means

This amber light can mean lane assistance is unavailable, switched off, or reporting a fault; on some vehicles it may indicate a lane warning. Amber usually calls for attention or a check soon, but the exact meaning and colour vary by manufacturer.

What the symbol looks like: A vehicle between lane markings, sometimes with an arrow or warning mark, represents lane-departure warning or lane assist.

Why it comes on

  • The lane-assistance feature was switched off.
  • Lane markings are faded, covered, or difficult for the camera to see.
  • Poor weather, glare, or dirt on the windshield is interfering with the camera.
  • The system has detected a fault or is temporarily unavailable.

What to do

  1. Check the owner's manual to identify whether the light means off, unavailable, or fault.
  2. Keep steering yourself and follow the lane markings.
  3. When safe, clear any obstruction from the windshield in front of the camera.
  4. If the warning persists in suitable conditions, arrange a vehicle check.

Can I keep driving?

You can usually keep driving if steering and braking work normally, but steer and monitor lane position yourself. Do not rely on lane assistance while it is unavailable or showing a fault.

Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
