What it means
The stability control system has been switched off or is unavailable. Amber usually signals that the system is not actively helping to prevent a skid; the symbol and whether it stays on vary by manufacturer.
What the symbol looks like: A car with skid marks beneath it and the word “OFF” beside or below it.
Why it comes on
- The driver switched stability control off.
- A partial-off or sport mode was selected.
- A fault in the stability control or ABS system.
- A wheel-speed sensor or its wiring has a fault.
What to do
- Check the owner’s manual to confirm what the symbol means for your vehicle.
- If you switched the system off, turn it back on using the vehicle’s control.
- Restart the vehicle once, if the manual recommends it.
- If the light remains on, arrange a check of the stability control and ABS systems.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle handles normally and no other warning is on, drive cautiously to a safe place or repair facility. Avoid fast cornering and slippery roads because stability assistance may be unavailable.
Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
