What is the Nissan Micra?

The Micra is Nissan’s small hatchback, designed for everyday driving in town and beyond. In Japan, the related model is known as the March. Nissan has kept the name in its compact-car range across markets, with successive generations bringing fresh designs while retaining the small hatchback format.

The generations covered here begin with the third-generation K12 (2002–2010), followed by the fourth-generation K13 (2010–2017) and fifth-generation K14 (2017–2023). The K12 was produced in Japan and the UK, reflecting the model’s international reach.

Engines and power

Official EU registration figures cover Micras from 2010 to 2025, with engines from 0.9 to 1.5 litres and power from 52 kW (71 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS). Fuels include petrol, diesel, hybrid, LPG, electric and other types. UK figures span 2000–2026, with 0.9- to 1.6-litre engines and power from 48 kW (65 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS). French figures cover 2012–2026 and list 1.0-litre petrol versions with power from 59 kW (80 PS) to 72 kW (98 PS).

Canadian figures cover petrol Micras with 1.6-litre engines from 2015 to 2019. In EU registration figures, the most registered listed entry is the 1.2-litre petrol rated at 59 kW (80 PS), appearing in 2011, 2015 and 2016.

How economical is the Nissan Micra?

The lowest listed EU consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 4.5 L/100 km on WLTP. The UK low is 3.2 L/100 km on NEDC, while France lists 4.1 L/100 km on NEDC. Canada lists a low of 7.7 L/100 km for petrol versions on its five-cycle test. WLTP and NEDC are European procedures; Canada’s five-cycle method differs, so results across markets are not directly comparable.

Official EU registration figures record 1,462,346 Micras across 2010–2025. UK figures begin in 2000, while Canadian figures cover 2015–2019.

Questions and answers

What are the Micra generations?

They are the third-generation K12 (2002–2010), fourth-generation K13 (2010–2017) and fifth-generation K14 (2017–2023).

What is the lowest listed Micra consumption in the EU?

It is 4.5 L/100 km on WLTP for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions.

Was the Micra sold in Canada?

Yes. Canadian figures cover petrol Micras with 1.6-litre engines from 2015 to 2019.
