What is the Lexus GS?

The GS is a four-door executive saloon with a sporting edge. It sat between smaller Lexus saloons and the flagship LS, offering a traditional luxury-car shape with petrol and hybrid power. Across four generations, its design evolved from a restrained saloon into a more distinctive shape.

The fourth-generation GS arrived in 2012 with the spindle grille, a design feature that became a recognisable part of the Lexus look. Its interior put more emphasis on the driver, while the range included both petrol and hybrid versions.

Lexus GS generations

The first generation ran from 1993 to 1997, followed by the second from 1998 to 2005 and the third from 2005 to 2012. The fourth generation ran from 2012 to 2020, bringing the spindle grille and a choice of petrol and hybrid power.

Engines, power and fuel consumption

In the EU and USA, the GS range covered engines from 2.0 L to 5.0 L. EU power figures ran from 133 kW (181 PS) to 351 kW (477 PS). The EU’s most registered versions included a 3.5 L petrol with 215 kW (292 PS) and 2.5 L petrol models with 133 kW (181 PS). The range included conventional petrol and hybrid powertrains.

The lowest listed consumption figures are 4.6 L/100 km in the UK and 4.7 L/100 km in France, both on the NEDC test. The USA figure is 7.6 L/100 km under EPA testing, and Canada’s is 7.5 L/100 km under NRCan’s 5-cycle procedure. These results are not directly comparable because the test procedures differ.

Where was the Lexus GS sold?

The GS was recorded in the EU, UK, France, USA and Canada. The recorded years vary by market: 1993–2020 in the USA, 1995–2020 in Canada and 2002–2018 in the UK. EU registrations cover 2010–2019, while the French figures cover 2012–2015.

Official figures are measured on standard test procedures and differ between markets. Your consumption depends on how, where and in what conditions you drive.
